I use artificial intelligence as part of my own work and help clients use AI effectively, responsibly and with appropriate human oversight.
How I use AI
I use AI tools to support activities such as research, analysis, drafting, planning, summarising information and developing ideas.
AI supports my work. I remain responsible for the advice, materials and information I provide to clients and publish under my name.
Human review
I review AI-assisted work before using or publishing it.
This includes checking accuracy, relevance, context, tone and, where appropriate, sources. I do not treat an AI-generated response as an authoritative source simply because an AI system produced it.
Confidentiality and information
I take care when deciding what information to enter into AI systems.
Client-confidential, commercially sensitive or personal information should not be entered into public AI tools without appropriate safeguards and authority to do so.
I encourage clients to understand the privacy, security and data policies of the AI tools their organisation uses.
Transparency
Where AI has played a material part in work produced for a client, I will be open about its use where disclosure is relevant.
The use of AI does not transfer responsibility for professional judgement to the technology.
AI literacy and responsible adoption
Using AI well requires more than access to an AI tool. People need to understand what the technology does, its limitations, the risks associated with its use and when human review is required.
The EU AI Act includes specific requirements relating to AI literacy. Article 4 requires providers and organisations deploying AI systems within its scope to take measures to support the development of AI literacy among staff and others using AI systems on their behalf.
My training and consultancy work reflects this approach by helping people understand how to use AI appropriately within their role, rather than focusing solely on how to operate individual tools.
Keeping this policy current
AI technology, regulation and accepted business practice continue to change. I review this policy periodically and update my approach where appropriate.
Human authored. AI assisted. Human reviewed.
